Logo file formats explained: PNG, SVG, EPS and PDF

Understand which files you need for websites, social media, print and signage.

Start with the fundamentals

PNG is useful for digital graphics and transparent backgrounds, but it is pixel-based. SVG is a scalable vector format widely used online. EPS and suitable vector PDFs are often requested by printers and signwriters.

Put it into practice

Ask for both raster and true-vector versions of your final identity. Check whether text has been outlined or fonts are appropriately supplied, and confirm colour specifications with the printer. Converting a low-resolution PNG into an SVG wrapper does not create genuine editable vector artwork.
